Michele Engelke is originally from Brazil but has lived and worked in Europe for over 20 years. A gipsy at heart, Michele has lived in her home country as well as England, Germany and Luxembourg.
Her love for reading took her to London where she completed a first degree in English and Linguistics. Nearly a decade later and with an MA in Applied Linguistics, she moved to Munich to teach English and Brazilian Portuguese as foreign languages. The excellent rapport she developed with students brought to light her love for people and their life stories. When being there for them proved Michele’s real passion, she decided it was time for a big career change. She currently lives in Eisenborn, Luxembourg, where she works as a trauma counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist.
The combination between an academic background in linguistics and CBT could not have felt more appropriate. Michele's understanding of the intrinsic relationship between language and thought has enabled her to approach clients' issues from a perspective that was naturally congruent with cognitive therapy. As an avid reader and independent writer, Michele strives to incorporate knowledge that is fresh and creative into her practice.
Michele Engelke's qualifications also include a University Certificate in Psychology, a Diploma in Counselling, a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, a Certificate in EMDR Therapy and Coaching, a Certificate in Introduction to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, advanced training in Attachment-Focused EMDR, as well as training in Trauma Counselling and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. She specialises in individual counselling for the treatment of trauma, excessive worrying and anxiety, depression and issues surrounding self-esteem.
‘I have great respect for my clients and what they are experiencing. I feel honoured to be allowed into their worlds, to share their stories and help them heal. I am very lucky and privileged to be able to become part of their journeys. The power of self-knowledge never fails to amaze me. I believe everyone is able to create a sense of reality that is truly empowering, they just need to access the right tools.’
